Hi,

Im playing round with the new S3 backend.
Let's say I loose my PBS server. Can I install a new PBS and use the same S3 backend?

I tried it but can't see old backups.

Do I also need to backup the "Backing Path" and restore it to the new server to be able to do this?

yes you can reuse the datastore contents as stored in the s3 bucket to re-create the datastore on a new PBS instance.

No, the local cache does not need to be backed up to do so, the s3 bucket contents are enough. You must however use the same datastore name on the new host, as this is used as prefix for the contents stored in the bucket.

I tried that. Here is my "old" S3-PBS:

Then I created a new PBS and attached the same S3-bucket.

Also used "reuse existing datastore".

The I checked content, but it was empty. Also tried "Refresh contect from S3 bucket".

You need to use the same datastore name.... and select the overwrite in-use maker. Mane sure tho not operate the datastore from both instances simultaneously, that is not supported!

I found the problem. I wasn't using the same names for the bucket.
pve01 on the old PBS server and pve01-test on the new.
