Hi we have large a 48tb 2u server that we would like to use as nfs target for veeam but would like to have pbs running on it for some servers .

As pbs do not allow nfs server service we dont want to spend on 2 units for now. Do you think running pbs as a vm on a zfs truenas scale array will do it ?

You can put a PBS datastore on a NFS share, it is just not recommended as PBS needs good IOPS performance and NFS would add additional latency. Recommended is SSD-only local storage.

Didn't tried TrueNAS Scale yet, as it isn't production ready, but here TrueNAS Core is working fine. But I had to install PBS on top of Debian, as the PBS installer wasn't giving me a display putput.

But be aware, that GC tasks will need an eternity to finish in case your TrueNAS is only using HDDs without a SSD for L2ARC or special device.

Yes, but you only because you got so few backups. It gets really bad with dozens of TBs of backups.

yes with dozens of TB of backup i will have probaly no issue purchasing SSD sas array :)

what do you use for SSD ? i read alot of people who just dont care about SAS at all as PBS and truenas and ceph can auto heal
