Hi,

i installed proxmox ve 1.5 yesterday and i was really surprised as i checked the disk space usage.

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/pve/root 95G 783M 89G 1% /
tmpfs 2.0G 0 2.0G 0% /lib/init/rw
udev 10M 2.7M 7.4M 27% /dev
tmpfs 2.0G 4.0K 2.0G 1% /dev/shm
/dev/mapper/pve-data 585G 1.4G 584G 1% /var/lib/vz
/dev/hdc1 504M 32M 448M 7% /boot

Why is the root partition so big? That's a pity, because it wastes disk space.

this depends on your usage. e.g. you can store LVM2 snapshot backups here.

you can specify the root partition with the maxroot parameter on the boot prompt (just search the forum)
