root@jupiter2:~# qm rollback 102 test
root@jupiter2:~# qm listsnapshot 102
`-> test 2021-12-01 11:31:35 no-description
`-> current You are here!

Best Regards,

Hi,
does it really not work, e.g. try to modify a file and then rollback? If not, please share the VM config and output of pveversion -v.

The current state will always be it's own entry in the above output, because it will deviate from the state when the snapshot is taken after the first modification after rollback.

Hi Fabian,
thanks for the quick replay and sorry for bothering you.
Yes its rolling back and i just assumed that the pointer in the snapshot tree should point somewhere else, but i realized now, that the point from where i rolled back ist lost after rollback.

This Screenshot from the documentation confused me, because it looks like i can do nestet snapshots which make only sense if i can swicht between them.
All i can do is serial snapshots and roll back on step at a time. How to do these nestet snapshots and how to switch between different branches.
Thanks for your support,
Paul

That depends on what type of storage is running in the background. If using ZFS thats a ZFS limitation. If you rollback a ZFS snapshot it will wipe everything after that. Thats why you normally create clones based on a snapshot to work with instead of doing a rollback.

But as far as I know with qcow2 snapshots you can jump back and forth between snapshots.
