We are currently in the process of testing restoring our vms using veeam to proxmox. I have a proxmox server setup release 9.1.1 and Veeam is on the version 12 patched to the latest and greatest. When I try to restore the vm from a backup file it fails on "Failed to prepare disk for restore". I am pretty new to Proxmox. Could there be a compatibility issue on the restore file type?
I also read a lot of post about compatibility issues. Any pointers are appreciated

Hi @ebarrios08 , welcome to the forum.

The error message is produced by Veeam, I would recommend starting with their support to help zoom in on a particular part of the process that failed.

I don't know the compatibility requirements for Veeam&PVE off the top of my head. I would recommend that you create a test VM in PVE and try to back it up and restore. That will provide a baseline of ability to use the two products together.

It is possible that the ESX configuration that was backed up is not compatible with PVE. It is also possible that Veeam is smart enough to do a proper conversion. Since we do not know anything about the type of restore you are doing - we cannot say.

If you know where to find the Veeam logs - you can probably get a head start on the analysis. The PVE logs can be monitored via "journalctl -f" during your restore attempts.

Cheers.
