Hello,

I have read in the Forum about in-place upgrade from 3.x to 5, and the recomendation is to upgrade from 3.x->4.x->5.0. But what about new install? I suppose that if I backup my KVM VM's via GUI to an external NFS and then Restore the VM's in a new PVE 5.0 install there should be no problem. Is this right?

Thank you very much! Best regards.

Yes, there is no problem to backup the VM's in 3.x and restore them to a new 5 installation.

OK! Thank you very much for your quick answer!. One more question. Is it necessary backing up all files in /etc and restoring them after installing 5.0 as is told in upgrading procedure?

Best regards.

If you just want to migrate your 3.x VMs to a new PVE 5 installation you don't need to backup or restore anything from the Proxmox host. You are not migrating the Proxmox node, you are just reallocating the VMs to a new place. You need to create a new PVE 5 installation with the same (or similar conditions) as network/storage setup etc...and just restore the VM backups there. Upgrading procedure is for upgrading proxmox hosts. It is not for the VMs inside.

Hello. I want to format my Proxmox 3-4 to Proxmox 5.2. I saved my WM with the vzdump command. Do you think that I can restore my WM on ProxMox 5.2 without difficulty?
