Hello,

Running latest PBS and PVE and have a question on restoring a VM.

Is it possible to restore a VM to a NEW VM and not overwrite the existing/running VM? I don't see any options in the GUI as I walk through the VM restore about restoring to a new node or leaving the existing VM running and restore to a new VM.

Am I missing those options perhaps?

Go in PVE to your PBS storage. There is a backups tab where you can see all your backups. From there you can restore a VM. If you then choose another VMID, you get a copy of that VM without overwriting the existing one. But keep in mind that MACs, IPs and so on will be identical, so you might not want to start while the other VM is running.

Hi,
for completeness, there also is a Unique checkbox upon restore you can use to automatically generate new MAC addresses. But the network configuration inside the VM still needs to be adapted of course.
