Restore files error

Hi,

PVE 9.2.21 - PBS 4.2.0

Backups Windows 2016 Server Standard are ok. But the option "Restore files" failed for one disk only. The disk is 300Go dynamic.
The error message is "failed : all moints failed".
Is there an issue with dynamic Windows disk ?

Hi @ccnet,

To restore individual files the VM disk needs to be mounted and presented to the host, as opposed to restoring entire disk where its done at byte/sector level. Mounting Windows NTFS requires processing of several layers, one of them NTFS. In your case there is also Dynamic Disk Metadata.

Here is a similar report on the Proxmox forum where file restore failed specifically for dynamic NTFS disks. The workaround was to map the backup manually and use ldmtool to expose the dynamic volume, then mount it using ntfs-3g:

Hi all,

Just came across this error when attempting to do a file restore from a backup of a Windows VM, mounting 'drive-scsi3.img.fidx/part/1' failed: all mounts failed or no supported file system (400). It looks like this error is seen when attempting to do file restores from multiple Windows machines. Below is logs from /var/log/proxmox-backup/file-restore,

Doing a full backup restore works without issue. Has anyone seen this before?
