Hello.

We need to restore a backup snapshot, but takes too long for de 500 GB VM disk. There is some way to speed up the qmrestore process? I can see the network interface traffic and is not full.

thanks in advance.

Best regards

provide numbers. "too long" is not that clear, and also tell in which storage types are involved.

and provide details about your hardware, post 'pveperf'.

the time to restore a 500gb disk is more that 6 hours (still running)

the storage is a NFS storage with SATAII disks and 1gb/s switched network (cisco Switch)

At the begining of the restore process we saw network bursts (60MBytes/s) and then only a few bursts of 4Mbytes/s
the size of the compressed backup file is 37 Gbytes.

pveperf

root@proxmox2-0:~# pveperf

AVERAGE SEEK TIME: 6.27 ms
FSYNCS/SECOND: 34.49

thanks.

looks like your storage (disk) is slow. you talk about sata disks - is this is single disk or raid? do you use LZO compression? if not use it.

your fsync/sec should be at least 1000. pls don´t run the benchmark if the server is under load.

Hello Tom.

The disk are in hardware raid1 in a ibm server x3250 16 GB RAM. No, the archive is compressed with tar.gz. The server is recovering the backup right now, maybe this is why the fsync/sec value.

Now the server still running the restore (7 hours)

thanks

Try a simple copy of file between NAS and PROXMOX and see the speed copy.

..or use iperf to measure network speed first. You should get over 900Mbit/s on 1Gbps network.
