Hi,

after a update we can resize a hdd bigger. But how we can resize a hdd smaller?

regards

Making Disks smaller is more risky than expanding. what guest OS do you run, what disk format?

Hi tom,

we use ms windows 2008 r2 enterprise with vmdk disc format. we would resize only a data permission smaller, not the system disk.

regards

first, resize the partition inside windows (built in function). the poweroff and create a new virtual disk with the desired size. then boot from a live CD can copy the partition to the new smaller disk. after you copied, power off and remove the old and add the new virtual disk. boot normally.

maybe there are easier methots but this one is a save one.

Hi, does not work for me. I have resize partition d: and shutdown the vm. i add a new vmdk partition and boot normal. the harddisk was found but after the next reboot the harddisk was found already and many windows services aren´t start. But the system partition c was not resized. what can we do here?

you post is confusing. you cannot add a vmdk partition, vmdk is a format for virtual disks. and you resize D then you talk about c?

think again what you are doing and then post your questions.

Hi tom,

i have resize partition d in windows to 750gb. than i have shutdown the vm. than i have add a new 750 gb partition (vmdk) on proxmox gui. than i have restart the vm. the new harddisk was found. than i have reboot the system and the harddisc was found again. on the 2.nd reboot many system services aren´t start and after every reboot the harddisk was found again. do you understand, what i mean?

regards and very thanks

Read again my first post, seems you missed something.

Hi, tom, yes, but we haven´t copy the partition, we would test before, if we can add a new partition without errors.

here a screen with the errors. This comes after add a new partition and reboto the system after every reboot.
