Rescue Mode: Black screen, nothing happens?

I am trying to get into Proxmox rescue mode to fix a few ZFS issues, but when I select "Rescue Mode" when booting from a USB stick (latest Promox version), the screen remains black.

I think I can hear disk activity, but nothing appears on the screen.

Should I wait or... ?

I have used rescue mode before and once it told me the rpool was not found, so I have been able to boot it on this machine, but this time nothing appears on screen.

Try to boot with "nomodeset" appended to the linux commandline

EDIT: Start the CD, once in menu hit "e", then change the line "linux ..." and append nomodeset
