Hello,
I recently installed Proxmox and am enjoying testing the flexibility of the VMs and containers. I am having a little trouble understanding how to setup storage and be able to pass that through to VMs and containers.
In my system i have 1x 120GB SSD that is the boot drive that has Proxmox installed on. I also have 4x 1.82TB drives that i am wanting to use as various storage. I.e storage for VMs and containers as well as a network share for other users on my network.

I have created a ZFS pool called data without issue

And created some directories and things for isos, VM images and a Storage directory

However one of the VMs or containers i am looking to setup is for Plex and i am having a hard time understanding how i can get access to, for example the zfsstorage directory to place my media for plex to access.

I have searched online and think i have watched every setup video to do with Proxmox but it seems that is one question that is left out of the setup videos. I found one video on youtube that specifically talked about setting up Proxmox and Plex but the youtuber connected plex to a synology Nas for the file and media storage.

My ideal setup is to use how i have it setup at the moment, with the zfsimage, zfsiso and zfsstorage. With the zfsstorage being the main bulk storage that will be shared out across the network, aswell as be the main mount for containers and VMs like Plex.

I did also see a video that had a youtuber say they use Freenas to manage their storage and setup network shares. But again i am having a hard time understanding how a container or VM can access that storage from Freenas.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

FreeNAS is OpenBSD so you have to use a VM. A container does only work for Linux based distributions.
The most User use HBA (Host Bust Adapter) passthrough. So the ZFS has access to the Hardware.
I would recommend you to use OMV [1] in a container. Then you have no overhead for the storage and you have a GUI to set up a network share.
