Replacing disks

Hello.
Here is our situation - we have 2x 1000GB and 2x 500GB HDDs.
But now we want to replace all these disks with 2x 1000GB SSDs.
And here is the thing, we´d like to do. We want to move data from 500GB disks to 1000GB disks, then remove the 500GB HDDs and replace them with the 1000GB SSDs. At last we need to move all data from 1000GB HDDs to 1000GB SSDs.
We have not been able to find any solution to our problem. We found only replacing single old disks to new one, or increasing space by adding another disk .... but not to go back from 2 to 1 disk.

Any ideas someone? It would help us so much.

Device removal has been added to ZFS only very recently.
With the version of ZFS that is currently shipped with PVE this is not possible.

This scenario should be possible with the ZFS version that will be shipped with PVE 6.0. (see https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/zfs-0-8-0-released.54603/)

Hello, i am back again with question after we updated proxmox to version 6.
Now, when we have ability to remove the devices, we get in another problem with the process.
We tried a few commands but none of them worked and Grub told us that he does not understand the devices.
Used commands:
zpool remove rpool mirror-1
zpool remove rpool sdc
zpool remove -np rpool mirror-1
zpool remove -l rpool mirror-1

Unfortunately none of these commands did a job.
Do we need to make the disk offline before removing them?
We will appreciate any thoughts.

Seems like you are out of luck

ZFS will not let you remove a device from the pool you are booting from. A quick test trying to circumvent it resulted in a system that would not boot anymore!
