Hi,

We have a ceph cluster with five nodes. We have had a hardware failure and I'm about to install a new node. Our existing cluster is running Proxmox v5. I'm wondering if I can install V6 on the new node and add to the existing cluster?

I don't really want to risk upgrading the four nodes as I am already one node down.

Can it be done?

Possibly, but I wouldn't recommend it. The PVE 5.x nodes run Corosync 2 and would have to be upgraded to Corosync 3 before you could attempt to add the PVE 6.x node. On the 6.x node, you would need to override the Ceph repository with ceph-luminous (since nautilus is native). That's not really a supported configuration beyond the 5.x to 6.x upgrade process.

Better to add the node as a 5.x and then upgrade the entire cluster, IMHO. https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Upgrade_from_5.x_to_6.0
