repeat alerts on same smart errors?

I'm getting repeated alert emails about the same smart errors. Is this behavior as designed/intended?
Is it possible to only get alert emails when NEW errors occur?

It is probably Smartmontools that complains (which is commonly part of Proxmox's underlying Debian GNU/LInux) . Maybe it can be configured that way or you can configure it to filter out existing errors or certain problematic SMART attributes?
