I have a 4TB hard drive plugged inside of my PVE host. The hard drive has data on it so I do need to reformat it clean first. End goal is to create a volume that I can pass through to a Windows VM on this PVE host to store media. Looking for documentation has been difficult because there are so many ways to go about it, like here: https://www.hostfav.com/blog/index.php/2017/02/01/add-a-new-physical-hard-drive-to-proxmox-ve-4x-5x/

Below is the exact disk that I need to format and connect to the Windows VM after. How should I do this?

Code:
[root@pve:~]# fdisk -l | head -n 10
Disk /dev/sda: 3.7 TiB, 4000787030016 bytes, 7814037168 sectors
Disk model: HGST HUS724040AL
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disklabel type: gpt
Disk identifier: F8ADEAD7-4562-11E2-B324-0007430949EA

Device Start End Sectors Size Type
/dev/sda1 2048 7814037134 7814035087 3.7T Linux filesystem

Don't get your point in deleting/formatting a disk so it can be reused within a VM.

If you want to pass through an entire disk then you can do so without altering the content. Afterwards you can simply format it within windows.

Search for "pass through disk Proxmox" and you should find the wiki article easily.
