Reduce size of thin-pool?

Is it possible to shrink the size of a thin-pool? I need to extend the pool's metadata LV, so I want to reduce the data LV to make room. Right now, the data LV is leaving the PV and VG with no free space.

Can I do this with lvreduce? Is there a file system on the data LV that I need to reduce first?

As far as I know shrinking/reducing lvm thin pools is not possible.

* you can create a volume in the thin-pool, create a filesystem on top of it and mount that somewhere where you need space.
* you can also create a new layout on a new disk, and then include that as storage in your PVE node and move the disks of the guests there
