I've been looking for a comparison (pros/cons) of the different image formats with regard to VM type (KVM or OpenVZ).
If one is KVM-only should they always use qcow2 image format? The advantages of qcow2 over raw are listed at the top of: http://people.gnome.org/~markmc/qcow-image-format.html and I understand that if I want to do real KVM snapshots (as opposed to vzdump backups using "snapshot" mode) using monitor commands that I would need to use qcow2 format.
Are there any advantages to using the raw image format with KVM-only VMs?
I'm not that interested in vmdk format but if there are advantages other than compatibility would be interested in hearing them.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers
