Hi to everybody!!!!

Since one of my customers have to purchase a new server, which specific models you recommend me of Dell or HP brand for Proxmox 1.6?

Obviously with RAID hardware and BBU. I think to use RAID 6.

Thanks!!!

I saw that page.

HP DL380G5 and IBM x3650 are a bit old....

I request people on the forum to suggest specific models selling nowadays, tested and with good raid controllers with BBU operating with Proxmox without problems.

Like, for example, DELL PowerEdge 2970 with Perc 6/i

All server certified for Debian or Ubuntu should be a good selection. Our latest Kernel is 2.6.32, so there is good driver support including drivers for latest Intel/Broadcom NIC´s. If you are unsure, ask the seller of they support Proxmox VE - we are open to work together with hardware companies to certify, test and optimize our Kernel.

Currently we do not have actual Dell or HP server in our test lab, most are custom build server but also a Intel Modular Server.

As a general rule, always go for the latest and greatest harddrive/raid controller.

We are running on on of these: http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?q=hp+dl385+g7&hl=en&prmd=iv&cr=countryUK|countryGB&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=11423412187971608975&ei=_4-jTLKcBczDswaV-JizCA&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CD4Q8wIwAw#

Results seem quite good. Make sure you get a battery for the BBC or use a flash version.

HP refused to say whether Debian was supported on this server, but everything so far just works. Ah - *except* that the current Linux kernel add-in ECC support does not cover DDR3 ECC. Coming RSN apparently...

I'm looking for the best appropriate Dell server configuration to fit and make a test for :
[ ] virtualize 5 XP PRO workstations (max. 8 in the future) for common VDI-Virtual Desktop Infrastructure to obtain a use and a render of near native performance for users
[ ] knowing that today a new workstation would cost between 300-500 € , the budget allocated to this server should not exceed 3500 €
If anyone can help, I remain available ;)

Thx

Thx, Do you know any Open Source equivalent / alternative ?

If you're doing VDI - Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, what protocol or tricks do you use to obtain a use and a render of near native performance for users ?

Any advise ?

Could you please answer in this thread dedicated to VDI ?

well, thinStuff cost a little but it works on a xp-pro instead on a server. we use cheap thinclients and no tricks. there work 5 cuncurrent users without problems.
for windows i do not know open source products that do the stuff.

if you have a pure linux network, then you have a big choice. i like edubuntu. nx is also very good and very fast.
cheers
