Hi guys,

i'm currently running my custom RIG with i5 12th, 32GB of RAM and 1TB SSD Crucial P2.
I want to increase storage size di 2TB and may be switch to two SSDs for data redundacy.

Do you suggest to used ZFS with consumer SSD? I want to move from 1x Crucial P2 to 2x P3 Plus or SP UD90.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks!

Always depends on the workload. But yes, but to on the safe side you should better buy proper enterprise/datacenter grade SSDs with power-loss- protection and additional TBW/DWPD. Otherwise sync write performance will be really bad, continously writing stuff will casue massive performance drops as consumer SSDs are only made for short bursts of writes and ZFS got heavy write amplification so the SSDs might fail sooner thats why the additional durability is highly recommended.

and create a normal software raid in this case? Is it better?
an Enterprise SSD is not cheap :)

Less wear and maybe more performance yes. But you usually want ZFS because you care about your data and you want those nice features like replication, block level compression and so on. You won't get this with a normal software raid.

You get what you pay for. When you compare durability and performance for server workloads those enterprise SSDs are a bargain compared to consumer SSDs. A 2TB Crucial P2 costs the same as a 1.92TB Micron 7400 PRO, so it isn't even more expensive (both 165€). And you get 6 times the rated durability as well as magnitudes better sync write performance.
