Realtek NIC randomly disappers

Hi all,
I have. Proxmox VE 8.2 running for about a year and now started seeing a rather strange behavior. Upon a restart, the NICs randomly disappear. I have an on-board LAN and a PCIe quad port card. When proxmox starts, lspci usually shows all 5 devices although it has happened a few times that one or two ports from the quad card were not detected. What's more strange is that the network interfaces are not configured on boot and are down. If a do ifdown/icup, sometimes the interface disappears from ip a output altogether even though I can still see the device in lspci.
I originally had a suspicion for a hardware failure but it's strange it's also happening to the on board LAN (which unfortunately has the same chip - realtek 8168). I have another node with identical hardware which is running fine now but I'm really hesitant to restart it now...is this a known issue with these NICs?
