I have a Dell r910
3x4tb ssd data
1x500g rust for proxmox os
256g ram
2x10core intell

I'm getting random restarts.. probably between once a day to 4 times a day.
I have tested ram, was stable for a year prior. I feel like it might be related to the last few proxmox updates but I could be wrong

Can someone help me I don't know know where to start.

Thanks in advance.

hi,

please post pveversion -v output and the journal/syslog entries around the time of the restart (+-10 minutes should be enough to see any obvious errors)

SOLVED or at least RESOLVED!!!

Okay the random restarts have happened a few times over the last year or so, but were VERY infrequent. But in last 2 weeks was happening every 4 hours or so.

But I think I have figure out what was wrong, no idea why this would cause proxmox host to restart. (bios watchdog was disabled!)
In the last week I was trying to backup my photos from my phone to nextcloud docker in VM (where the data folder was on truenas in vm via SMB).
Loading lots of images would cause host to fully reboot! if I stopped my phone from backing up ... random restarts would stop.

So lots of googling - I decided to move from SMB to NFS because people bleat about good the performance is, and SMB can be flakey.
I updated all linux shares back to truenas to NFS - and BAM ... not one restart since!!!
(also read/write performance improved significantly! ... so peoples bleating about NFS was valid in my usecase)

So im not 100% sure what combination was causing the host reboots nextcloud, truenas or SMB in truenas.

But its been almost 2 days and not a single host reboot!

amazing!

thanks for sharing the solution

Still no random restarts!

I backed up my partners phone same way. Still no restarts. Would have restarted atleast once.

Looks like for what ever reason smb was the issue or atleast part of it.
