Hello! I'm new to proxmox. I have some questions:

1) I want to install proxmox VE on my old PC, but I want to install the OS on my SSD and the rest 4 HDD that I have I want to put them in raid 5... my question to you is Can I do that and how?
2) Also, I want to install Truenas core on proxmox to make my PC like a NAS. Truenas Core will see all my 4 HDD in raid 5?
3) I want to install pfSense or Sophos on proxmox, I can use the VM(pfSense or Sophos) to act as a firewall to my LAN?
4) How can I access through VPN my proxmox?

Thank you very much!

Depends...you either need more than 1 NIC or a tagged vlan capable (IEEE 802.1Q) managed switch.

You need to install some kind of VPN server...I would bet pfsense got plugins for that. I personally use the wireguard server provided by my OPNsense VMs.

You install PVE to that SSD and ignore the 4 HDDs.

Here you got different options:
1.) create a HW raid5 or ZFS raidz1 on the PVE host and let your TrueNAS only work with a single virtual HDD
2.) you disk passthrough the 4 individual disks into the TrueNAS VM and let TrueNAS create a raidz1
3.) you buy a HBA card (make first sure your mainboard/BIOS/chipset/CPU/HBA supports PCI passthrough), use PCI passthrough to passthrough that HBA with all 4 disks attached to it and let TrueNAS create a raidz1

Remember how virtualization works. No VM can make use of any real hardware of the host unless you do a PCI passthrough (option 3). And then that hardware is only usable by that single VM (host or other VMs can't use it any longer). Or you have to work with virtual devices, which then adds virtualization overhead (options 1 and 2).

Thank you very much for all your info.
