I would like to run a 2 node cluster with a quorum disk on a separate machine. I know it sounds odd, but we plan on running one virtual machine at all times. Am I correct in thinking that a dual drbd setup is not needed? I would like to just run a single drbd partition in active/active. The VM will run on host#1 98% of the time. Appreciate the input!

Hi,
right for your scenario. But... with virtualisation it's easy to get more and more VMs. If your cluster is running you will see that many VMs are runable on such an cluster (and why you want to waste the power of an running system?).

And "quorum disk on a separate machine"? - better join this host to a cluster (3 nodes).

We currently have 7 production dual primary 2 node proxmox clusters for web services, vpns and a number of other things. I definitely see how it scales.

Believe me I completely agree. But for our scenario, there will never be another VM. Our software runs on a single OS and there is nothing in the far future for requiring multiple VM's.

As far as the quorum disk goes, I thought they worked just fine, running them on all my other clusters and its been solid for almost 18 months. Have you have issues with them?

Hi,
no I don't have issues with quorum disks - I don't have experiences with them (I prefer the >2nodes-cluster)!
But this depends on out network model - in the cluster-network there aren't any usable iScsi-SANs.

But BTW, why you use 7 clusters and don't join them to 1 (or 2,3) Cluster? Are the hosts in different locations?

Management felt that concept left to many of our eggs in one basket. I tried to push it a bit, but in the end it was a no go.
