Questions on Intel Core2 Duo E8400 Capabilities

Hello, I have two separate servers that runs bunch of docker containers.

- Intel Pentium G4600 + 8GB DDR4 for OpenMediaVault (Plex, Sonarr etc)
- Intel Core i5-2300 + 16GB DDR3 for Minecraft Server (Two servers 8GB, 2GB each)

I would like to merge them into one using Intel Core2 Duo E8400 system. The main reason for this is because the mainboard has four RAM slots and I can give more RAM(32GB DDR3) to the system. Apparently E8400 is inferior. It has only 2 cores and 2 threads and has the lowest single thread performance among the three according to cpubenchmark.com.

I am planning to run two or three VMs
- One for OpenMediaVault
- One for docker containers
- Optionally one separate VM for Minecraft servers

I am worried if E8400 won't be able to handle this much tasks. It would be grateful if anybody could share thoughts and experiences with Proxmox on E8400.

Are you sure that works? The cpu is so old, intel does not list the maximum supported ram on their ark. 15 years ago, it was NOT common to have such big RAM on a desktop computer. It may work though.

You need to try it out. I don't think that there are many people having experience with sooooo old desktop hardware.
What is the maximum CPU you can put on your mainboard? Maybe update it, too.

Well.. That's one thing I was worried about too. That's the reason why I wanted to hear from people who have experiences with E8400.

And yeah it's kind of embarassing to talk about E8400 in 2023 but I wanted to squeeze the use out of it. Maybe it's about time to let go of the hardware. RIP.

But still, it would be nice if anybody could share their stories.
