Hello team,

I am trying to setup Proxmox cluster, but I need to think about shared disk before that. Now, I am plannning to use ZFS (Raidz2:RAID6). Please see below for my questions.

1. I will setup 3 Proxmox nodes and will be configured as cluster. Each Proxmox machine has 3xM.2 disks. Can I configure these disks as raidz2 and can be shared? For instance, Proxmox A has disk1 and Proxmox B has disk2. Now, Can I setup these disk1 and disk2 as raidz2?
I want to setup guest OS into this shared pool. If one of disks gets serious problem, the guest OS still can continue working.

2. Also, I want to know if this is possible configuretion as below.
Proxmox single machine have 4 M.2 disks and I want to setup all of them as raidz2 so that redundancy function can be enabled.

3. I saw some web sites that mentioned about ZFS performance issue. The current netwok speed is 1G bandwidth. You think it would be better to use NFS network?
I have FreeNAS and I used FreeNAS for ESXi before and the performance was good. I mean, I used this for WEB server, mail and DNS.

4. Is there any documentations for ZFS setup and how to configure as shared disk?

Thank you for your support.

Regards,

No

ZFS is a local file system and is not network-dependent

No. Because thats not something it is designed for. What you need to research is Ceph. For Ceph your 1G link will be a bottleneck.

If you have existing NAS, then you should use it for shared storage, its a perfect fit.

Good luck

Hi bbgeek17,

Thank you so much for your feedback! I appreciate your quick response. BTW, what about following case?

1. I have one machine which have 4xM.2 drives and will setup Proxmox as standalone. And I will try to configure 4 drives as raidz2.
After that, will install guest OS into this raidz2 pool. It should work right?

Regards,
