Hello.

We are a little late with this upgrade, and still running Proxmox 6.4-9

I have seen the guide here:
https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Upgrade_from_6.x_to_7.0#Known_upgrade_issues

Is it still safe to upgrade from this version? Would that be from 6.4-9 to 7.2? or 7.0?

If this fails and we need to reinstall everything. What happens to Ceph?
Can Ceph import the old "array"? Or would we need to restore everything from backup to a new Ceph?

Thanks :)

yes it's safe, you'll get 7.2 at the end of the upgrade.

you'd have to add the ceph storage back into your config. as long as you didn't delete your volumes you should be fine.
though it never hurts to have some backups.

make sure to follow the instructions carefully, and use the pve6to7 script beforehand (to check for common/known problems).
after that's done you can upgrade ceph if you wish [0]

to be sure, you can create a PVE VM to test the upgrades as well :)
