Created a windows 2003 server VM by cd-rom installation.
The VM runs perfectly OK.

vzdump manually and by schedule-backup, with the vm running and properly shut-down. All 4 combination seems resulted with a successful .tgz file and log of the vm.

Even qmrestore reported no error. BUT, I just cannot "start" the restored VM from the pve web-ui!

- the only thing I'd changed is the VMID when qmrestore;
- the restore was attemped with the same machine;
- the original vm has already been stopped, when attempting to start the restored vm

I'm just a novice, :confused: please enlighten me.

maybe you point to a non-existing cd-iso image? (means the ISO was on the original but not on the new host. btw, there is a log on the web interface when you start a VM)

1. The VM boot sequence was CD>HDD, I corrected it to HDD

2. I used 8-digit vmid; changed to 3- and 4-digit VMID;

Everything is fine. :) qmrestore vm runs normally!

I should have noticed #2 when I first create vm with QEMU

Tom, though the log not offering hits to the situation, looking into the cdrom is a good pointer :cool:. Thx!
