Hello! Total noob here. Didn't find a solution on the forum(maybe user error). I have installed Ubuntu Server on proxmox and for my life I can't sort out the qemu agent. Keeps failing. All packages are updated, agent installed on vm, enabled on the host, but still can't get it working. Can someone point me to the right direction please? Much appreciated

Welcome to the Forum!

Did you try reinstalling the guest-agent on said VM?

apt reinstall qemu-guest-agent

Hello! thank you the reply! Yes I did try to reinstall the guest agent, shut down system, started again. I tried disabling agent in the host, removing serial port serial0, VirtIO. Then added it all back, reinstalled the agent again and enabled in the host. Vm has agent installed now, but for some reason it doesn't want to connect to the host

Oh i just notice, you try to enable it. That doesnt work. Can you post the output of systemctl start qemu-guest-agent

Oh yeah. on the screenshot command is enable, but I did try "start". Screenshot is below. On the other screenshot is says that /dev/virtio-ports doesn't exist. Does that ment vm doesn't see the serial port on the host?

That means you did not enable the guest agent in Proxmox. After doing so the VM needs to be completely shut down and started via Proxmox to make the changes take affect.

Please do so and try again.

The Reboot button works too

It's strange though because your QEMU Guest Agent option is not highlighted so one wouldn't expect this to be a non-applied change.

I did try that before. Now I disabled it, enabled it again, shut down VM, started. Getting the same dependancy fail. I guess I will need to come back home and start it all over again. I was fighting it for 2 days now.
Enabled on host and installed on VM, I just can't make them connect
