Sorry guys,

We are really scratching our heads here. This looks like a genuine bug with HPE Network Interface Cards.
They are not working correctly at all.

Manual or DHCP leasing address assignment is not working correctly. The device gets left without any connectivity and then even manually editing the network settings to another address does not work.

HELLLP :)

Hi,

please provide some more information.
First of, please post the output of pveversion -v, lspci and cat /etc/network/interfaces.

Next, are there any related errors/warnings/other messages in the syslog (can be viewed with journalctl -b)?
If you're unsure, you can also simply attach the whole file journalctl -b >journal.log as a file to your answer.

Hi cheiss,

OK so we have a repeatable >

Install PVE -
PVE Obtains DHCP Lease
Edit differing IP Settings Manually in Installer.
PVE Reboots no connectivity on chosen IP. No GUI No Reply to Ping, Comms to PVE Lost.

Install PVE
PVE Obtains DHCP Lease
Edit DHCP Server to give reservation against MAC Address different from first IP
Reboot PVE - PVE Picks up DHCP Reservation, and looses Comms. No GUI No Reply to Ping. Comms Lost to PVE.

Install PVE
PVE Obtains DHCP Lease
Let PVE Complete Enter WebGUI and Change IP on Vmbr0 to preferred manual setting (DHCP Server Settings obviously make no difference here)
PVE Then works on that IP and all is OK

For Clarity we have this working reliably now and can obtain any IP we want, just by waiting to make changes in the GUI.
But it had us stumped as we were following our usual methodology to set the IP in the setup or via DHCP Reservation.

Hope this helps.

Good to hear!

To be clear: Proxmox VE by design only use static addresses and not DHCP, once installed. This can be configured through the web interface.

If you really need/want to use DHCP (if I understood you correctly, but which is uncommon and not really supported), you need to first install a DHCP client (e.g. apt install dhcpcd) and then (manually!) switch the interface in /etc/network/interfaces to DHCP:
Code:
auto vmbr0
iface vmbr0 inet dhcp

Hope this helps!
