PVE4.4: Ubuntu 14.04.3 system freezes during backup

Hi All,

we have an issue with a Ubuntu 14.04.3 system on one of our PVE4.4 (latest updates installed) farm, that constantly freezes during backup.

Here's the log of the backup job itself, which works fine:

Unfortunaltely we can't upgrade the system to a more recent version, currently running on

Linux version 3.13.0-129-generic (buildd@lgw01-05) (gcc version 4.8.4 (Ubuntu 4.8.4-2ubuntu1~14.04.3) ) #178-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 11 12:48:20 UTC 2017

When it freezes, the system does no react via SSH or Virtual PVE terminal anymore, nor can we shut it down via QEMU, and just have to forace a "Power off" via Proxmox. After powering it on again, it starts as usually and works totally fine.

Any idea on what could cause this?

Never saw that, but I wonder why you use 'ide' on an linux system?

Thanks for your feedback! Actually this is a legacy system that has been virtualized after initially being installed on real HW, and for unknown reasons of the previous provider did decide to do so. We encountered some issues while trying to change the storage controller for example and which rendered the system unuseable, so we decided to keep it as is.
