pve-zsync alternative for a guest ?

Hi,

I'm using PVE and PBS for my backups. It works great but :

- I have a VM with a passthrough of a HDD. And so PVE can't access this HDD.
It means I have no backup for this HDD on ZFS using integrated backup tool in PVE.

To solve this issue, I installed pve-zsync in the guest (ubuntu) to backup to my PBS server but it seems with this tool is not possible to sync dataset recursively.
I have multiple dataset.

Any idea which tool I can use ?

There is also the proxmox-backup-client that can be run inside a linux guest to backup files/folder/blockdevices to PBS. But with ubuntu 22.04 there was a dependency problem where I don't know if it got fixed yet.

If I'm not wrong, I think proxmox-backup-client is not made for zfs, right ?


I think I'll go with a tool like sanoid to use ZFS features for my backup.

No, but you said you are using PBS for your backups. That way PBS can store your backups. PBS isn't making use of ZFS features.
