I have done a benchmark on the same hardware to compare Proxmox pve (kvm-0.12.3) with a well known Other Virtualising Platform (here called OVP)
For the io i used h2benchw 3.13 (pure IO).
Hardware (real): AMD Phenom II X4 620 (2,61 Ghz), 8Gb RAM DDR3 ECC, Areca Arc 1210 PCI-e x8, 4x WDC Raptor 300Gb (RAID 10)
Hardware (virtual): AMD Phenom II X4 620 (2,61 Ghz)(1-2 Core(s)), 1Gb RAM, 50Gb HDD, Windows XP Pro SP3
Very surprising is the good pve-performance compared to a native installed XP. But this is only valid with one guest-cpu!! It's depends perhaps also from the driver (raid)...
With two or more cpus kvm loose total (see other post)
I think Proxmox (kvm) is realy on the right way!
