Hi i have a server with a adaptec 2010s Raid ZCR card in it, when i try to install PVE it installs but after reboot comes up with the error /dev/pve-root /mnt directory or file doesn't exsist.

If i install debain 5 normally it installs to it gets to GRUB and i have to then ALT F2 to then chroot /target the drive and install grub manually to get it to boot.

Then Proxmox doesn't work correctly due to ethernet issues or unable to make a openvz container.

I have been trying all day to get it to work with no success at all any ideas or any help?

Thanks in advance!

Server Specs

AMD Opteron 270 x2 2.0GHZ
4GB DDR400 ECC
2x SCSI 80 pin 15,000 RPM 73.00GB Hard Drives Raid 0 (partitioned to LVM2 both ways i have tried)
Adaptec 2010s ZCR

If i remove the scsi zcr card it will work no problems but only uses one drive and i'd like to use the 2 drives that are in plus the other 2 i have that is waiting to go in.

which ISO did you use? try:

  1. the latest 1.5
  2. and the 1.4 (and upgrade later)
on the boot prompt, just type 'debug' - so you see more information during installation process.

i was trying to boot from a 1.5 PVE CD install haven't tried 1.4 PVE CD.

I done debug to get the drives detected. No errors but during install i can see anything as its graphical.

Debain V5 Fails at Grub to which i have to install manual, PVE has Grub installed to the drives but then it get the /dev/mapper/pve-root /mnt doesn't exist error.

Ubuntu, Cent OS 5, Fedora, Redhat all work on this server and ubuntu is from the same branch as Debain.

Just installed PVE to my DELL SC1420 server which has the same SCSI card and it works out the Box.

It even Detects the Hard Drives in normal and Debug and even prints them out as well on the screen the size and volume name.

So could this be a issue with the ZCR's config?

as always if you are out of ideas check if there is a new mainboard bios available. this solved sometimes strange issues for me, fighting with old boxes in our hardware test lab.

The bios on the server is the latest and its the same with the SCSI card as well. It just ashame i can't use proxmox on Ubuntu as that would solve the issue for the problem currently.

Proxmox VE is distribution based on Debian so it cannot run on Ubuntu (which is also based on Debian).
