[SOLVED] PVE GUI: suddently can't enter TOTP anymore

Hi,

I was away for two days and coming back, I can't enter the TOTP in my PVE GUI anymore.

Well, I normally use Firefox and with Firefox it doesn't work anymore. But with Chrome it does work still. So I have a workaround.

But what is going on?

I accces the PVE GUI and then I'm prompted for the user and password, which I can enter as usual. It is accepted and then the TOTP prompt is displayed but there is no cursor in the respective field. I also can't click on anything. It just doesn't accept any input anymore. When I reload the page, the password prompt comes up again and everything repeats.

Any ideas what I can do?

I already tried to terminate and restart Firefox but that didn't help.

Try to use a clean profile. Go for about:profiles (newer releases only) or start Firefox the classic way via "firefox -P" to get the old profile manager. Create a new profile. Compare your experience.

Never heard of that before.

But a new clean profile actually did the trick.

I guess I'll have to read up on profiles in Firefox.

Yeah ;-)

I am using this for centuries. This way I can run multiple instances of the very same browser with independent content at the same time.

For example for "work", "private", "trash". Each with specific security/filter settings and add-ons - and isolated from each other.
 
I do have one follow-up question:

Now that I know that my normal profile is somehow messed up, is there a way to repair it or am I better off making that new test profile my normal profile and deleting the messed up one?

Not as far as I know. (Except "from Backup" of course.)

Sorry for that...

Yes :-)

The best thing is that it works without any third-party addons. It just creates a separate "~/.mozilla/firefox/xyz.mynewprofile"-folder (and then works exclusively in it), that's all.

It’s a Mozilla add on. They have a related one to isolate Facebook sessions/trackers.

I’ve used this one for years to properly isolate Microsoft 365 accounts, since MS doesn’t.
