I have a server with very large disks 2 * 900 gb + 6 * 1200 gb

I'm planning to configure RAID volumes as follow:

first volume: 2 disks 900 GB in RAID 1 = 900 gb

second volume: 6 disks 1200 GB in RAID 10 = 3600 gb

The second volume will be used as local storage.

Is it reccomended to use the first volume (2 disks 900 GB in RAID 1) for PVE and for local storage: a 50 GB partition for PVE and a 850 gb partition for local storage ?

Use zfs mirror for your 2 900G Disks to install proxmox and either zfs raid z2 with your 6 disks (2 disk redundancy, 4.8 tb usable) or a mirrored stripe (aka raid 10).
The mirrored stripe is easily expandable by adding 2 more disks.

You can use your storage however you want;)

If you have questions just ask
