Hello,
i cannot make PVE 6.2 work on this server at all, first install works and then on next boot it fails to boot after a warning it hangs for ~ 5 minutes, then gives lots of timeout errors and hangs, this is the screen capture:
20201002_1554112.jpg
Server is a DL380G5 performance model with 2xE5450, 28GB RAM, P400 w/512MB BBWC and 2x SAS HDD
Server is updated to the latest FW all across:
BIOS P56 08/16/2015
Ilo 2.33
P400 v7.24

Server has passed all kinds of testing before:
memtest, several hours of prime95, other OS installed, i've checked all the BIOS settings and it seems all ok: all virtualization options enabled, power management set to OS control(tested with HP dynamic control and no difference), nothing is logged on the IML or the SEL after the failed boot
Previous to PVE i installed win10 to update the FW and it installed and worked perfectly.
I've already installed PVE twice, same result, even wiping the drives in the middle.
As an aside, Ubuntu also fails, i installed 20.04 , the installation works perfectly(same as the ubuntu live) but the installed version hangs on boot just the same

¿any ideas?

edit1: i've googled and i've found mostly very old posts from 2017 to 2018 for old versions of PVE, i've also seen mention of disabling MPS table, but that disables multiprocessing so it's a no-go.
edit2: the PMU bug is informational only, and it cannot be disabled on G5 as it doesn't has the BIOS option to disable monitoring

hi,

if the ubuntu install is also hanging then it could be a driver or kernel problem (since PVE uses ubuntu kernel with some patches on top) specific to your hardware.

have you tried installing debian? [0] it's possible to add the PVE repository on top after the installation.
if it hangs again after installing the kernel, then we know what to focus on

Ogus, hi,
after a LOT of fiddling, it turns out there are two settings that make it work:
In the BIOS the power regulator must be set to "HP dynamic power"(i haven't tested static low or high as i don't want those), setting it to "OS Control" yields the boot hang.
The boot parameter acpi_osi=“Linux” must be added to GRUB, or it will hang on boot half the time, mostly on reboots.

btw: ¿who is in charge of editing the wiki?, i found one page that's terribly outdated(latest info is for PVE 4.0 and doesn't work anymore) and no obvious way to report a change or edit it
