Hi Team,

Proxmox 9.1 uses the Ubuntu 6.17 drivers as far as I understood.
Now the question arises why does Ubuntu Server 25.10 (Kernel 6.17) support Intel vROC NVMe RAID drivers (even for installation) natively,
but Proxmox 9.1 does NOT allow to install on vROC NVMe RAID to install...

Are there not all drivers used from Ubuntu?

Can someone explain the discrepancies?

Thanks

Best regards

I am fairly certain 6.17 is not the default in PVE 9.1:

https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Proxmox_VE_Kernel

As such, I doubt the installer is running a 6.17 kernel, so no such driver available at boot.

Maybe you can try building your own Proxmox installer, until 6.17 becomes default in the installer.

Hi Fabian,
as I can see from the release Notes of Proxmox VE 9.1:
  • Latest 6.17.2-1 Kernel as new stable default
I do see the 6.17 kernel is default.
For Proxmox 9.0 the default was still 6.14, but this changed with PVE 9.1.

I stand corrected, the wiki is outdated then. Ubuntu 25.10 was released on Oct. 9 so yeah, it seems logical to think if such storage is recognized in the 25.10 installer it should too on the 9.1 installer for Proxmox VE.
