Original setup:
Optiplex with an NC365T running Proxmox.

Services:
  • .arr stack
  • Nextcloud
  • OPNsense (using NC365T for WAN and LAN)
I recently migrated OPNsense and the NC365T into a Lenovo M720q. I expected some network issues afterward on the Optiplex, but I thought Proxmox would still boot so I could fix configs or back up my VMs.

However, after removing the NIC and booting, the Proxmox CLI login appears for ~5 seconds, then the system hangs or reboots. I can’t ping or reach the web UI. The only way to stop the crash is booting with:

Pressing 'e' at the blue boot screen of proxmox and then add this to the linux line: init=/bin/bash

I’ve commented out all NC365T-related lines in /etc/network/interfaces, but it still loops.

I am extremely new to this type of fault finding, so any help I would highly appreciate.

Welcome, hannamontanna!
Maybe the names of the devices changed so the PVE can't find the boot device?

More detailed description of the facts you are observing would be needed...

Hi!
I did not see the response on my ticket, silly gmail putting things in spam or my just being sleep deprived (:. In the end, I backedup my vms via rescueUSB and reinstalled proxmox. I did reinstalld the NC365T back into the orginal proxmox, but the boot loop continued. And at that point I gave up trying to get that proxmox instance working, and went worst case mode approach, of having to reinstall proxmox.

Going forward I will look into running PBS!
