Has anyone installed Proxmox Ver 8.x on an HPE Gen11 server. I have it installed but I can not get the HPE AMS (Agentless Management Service) installed so the fans are screaming at 90%. I tried following the steps provided by HPE support, but I cant even get a version from the Proxmox CLI, need this information to download the correct repository. Any help is appreciated.

Bash:
wget -O - https://downloads.linux.hpe.com/SDR/repo/mcp/GPG-KEY-mcp | gpg --dearmor -o /usr/share/keyrings/hpe-mcp-archive-keyring.gpg

echo "deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/hpe-mcp-archive-keyring.gpg] http://downloads.linux.hpe.com/SDR/repo/mcp bookworm/current non-free" >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/hpe.list

then run "apt update && apt install amsd " .

It is working fine by my side.

After I run the wget it prompts me to enter a file name no matter what i enter as the file name it still gives me the "E: Unable to locate package asmd" error after running the apt install command.

Amsd installed and running but fans are not ramping down even after restart.

Did you even get this worked out?

I gave up running Linux and installed windows server while only using hp parts :(.
I am getting close to making the same choice, I was really ready to try proxmox in production but its not looking good. I do have a support ticket open with HP hoping they can tell me something

Any updates on this topic? I even installed today extra fans for cooling inside of server but without any progress with noise? Did HP replay to You?

Yes , it finally worked and fans running like about 17% idle may up every now and again but nothing nobody will notice… the fix for me was at had to get a hp 10 network card instead of the intel one I was using smh on HP. But make sure you have all genuine hp parts and you should be good….

I fixed the problem but have no idea what fixed it. I had installed windows server then installed all available bios, drivers and software. That fixed it for windows server bringing me to 6% on stock fans. Ive now installed proxmox with no additional hpe software and they are still in the single digits where before they were pegged at above 60%. dont know if this helps something in the prossess fixed it for me

Did you install windows server as a main system as proxmox is currently installed? do I understand it correctly ?

Sorry for the confusion. I installed windows server 2019 trial directly onto the drives and then updated the firmware, bios and any other download i could get off off the HPE driver download page till the fans worked as expected. I think the firmware and bios were the important ones though. After confirming the fans were working correctly on windows by restarting several times and running stress tests. I then wiped the drives and installed Proxmox onto the drives and it seems to be working but i have only been testing it for a few days since I got busy.

Also you cant have any non HPE branded drives or pcie devices or the fans will go crazy defaulting to a base speed out of caution. The only caveat is if the device or drive can connect back to HPE agent/drivers correctly but i gave up on getting that to work.

thanks for detailed answer! I will try do it the same way but tbh I’m not sure if it will help due to bios and ilo firmware is the newest one and I also installed the newest one SPP for this server.
About disc I’m using 4x iron wolf pro 16Tb and also pcie Qnap extender card where are 2x Samsung 980 pro. I spot when I disconnect qnap card fans are down by 5% to 35% duty. When I disconnect all hdd disc fun duty cycle is around 9%.
I’m really disappointed due to spent a lot of money for this device and it is not possible to have it working at home. Really would like to have find solution for this topic

Could you provide me what bios and Ilo firmware you are using?
