Hello,

We currently have a VMware environment, using vCenter, ESXi clusters and SRM as DR solution (DR between two datacenters in separate locations). We use SRM in combination with synchronous replication on storage level (array based replication).
We are considering Proxmox VE as an alternative solution for VMware but also require a solid and enterprise grade DR-solution on Proxmox. Preferably similar to SRM on VMware.

What are the options?
What enterprise grade 3rd party solutions are available, if Proxmox doesn't offer this functionality? We'd prefer not having to script everything ourselves.
How do you foresee DR on your Proxmox environment? We will not consider backup/restore as a DR solution.

Thanks for your feedback/insights.

Hi @CS- , there was a recent conversation related to your request that you may find interesting:

In addition to @bbgeeks17 post and just for the sake of completeness: it also depends on your storage. If you use e.g. ZFS, you have already a working solution for data recovery via asynchronous storage replication including VM config and it is part PVE. Technically it should also be possible with BTRFS at least to some extend.. For Ceph, you can also replicate the data itself to another datacenter, yet the configs will not be there automatically and you need at least one rsync job which may already count as "script everything" in your book. With metro LUNs or replication, it should also work with the rsync job of the configs, yet also "manual" to some sort.

It should come in the future with proxmox datacenter manager. (2 differents cluster + storage replication ). Not sure It'll be ready for 1.0 , but I'm pretty sure that the feature will be available in 2016.

For now, you need to replicate the storage yourself (depending of the storage techno, could be zfs, ceph, or proprietary San with replication feature), then on proxmox side, you just need to sync the vm config files.
