Proxmox VE Backup options

Hi everyone,

We are using a 4-blade server with proxmox VE installed in each node and currently we have PBS datastore configured for each node. This PBS is installed on a VM on another server and it's getting costly for us to manage this one server for just a single VM.

Are there any other backup options available through which we can take backups of the VMs. I am quite new to the proxmox world and not sure which solution would work fine for us. I would be grateful if any expert can guide me for this.

If only PBS is running on it, PBS could be run natively.

Are there any other backup options available through which we can take backups of the VMs. I am quite new to the proxmox world and not sure which solution would work fine for us.

It depends on what the goal should be...There are basically 2 integrated solutions from Proxmox.

• PBS with many features [1] e.g. dedup, Ransomware Protection, encryption...
• Classical vzdump [2] -> A full backup of all data per VM/CT is always generated here and written to a single file with vzdump. Compression (3 variants) is possible. A local storage, NFS or Samba can be used as a backup space, for example.

Only the content of a VM could also be backed up with BackupPC. https://backuppc.github.io/backuppc/
