Proxmox unresponsible (see screenshot attached)

My Proxmox (test)-gear does not respond anymore. Web-GUI is dead and also via SSH not reachable.
The boot process looks fine first. The HDD-light is flashing fro a couple of minutes, but the screen shows only this.
The login screen never appears.

Trying another kernel was also not helpful

I think, I tried already the recovery option in boot menü.
At the moment there seems no chance to access the boy; neither remot nor local
 
Okay, With the recovery option, I get more screen output.
But the boot process still stops at a line saying something like "mounting root and kernel file system" (did not take a picture)

I was able to start the pve using one of the amd64-rt options (not really knowing what I do).
TRying to update failed saying that something with ...hook not found (sorry I am not home)

Now, I think it's time to re-install.
Can I safely re-install pve without losing my config, (storages, VMs etc. )?

EDIT: just found this posting https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/trying-to-recover-from-dead-install.111628/. Looks exactly as my problem - except I did nothing to GRUB
