  1. PROXMOX 2.0 runs very good under the Micrsosft Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1
  2. Proxmox 2.1 did not run so easy, because:
    - In the installation the cursor did not respond, you have to choose
the buttuns by using the keybourd
    - After a short time (maby 1 or 2 hours) the some services
crashed. The proxmox server can't connected by the website
anymore. Further it does not route emails anymore.
If you want to install proxmox under Virtual Server - use Proxmox 2.0 !

hi,
thanks for sharing your experience here. please note that microsoft does NOT provide support for running linux on Virtual Server, so we are unable to support Proxmox running on MS Virtual Servers.

so to make clear, the kernel from 2.0 works (2.6.18). so you can install 2.0 and upgrade to 2.1 via servicepack (the kernel is never updated via servicepack). The iso image from 2.1 uses kernel 2.6.22.

Proxmox is certified for the following virtualization technologies:

- All VMware product, including ESX, fully supported
- Virtuozzo - fully supported
- OpenVZ - fully supported

Hello Tom,

thank you for your replay!
When I thought about the update to version 2.1 (without kernel renewing) I found an article, that the update function in the free version of proxmox is not available. If this information is correct I have only the chance to run version 2.0 in Microsoft Virtual server 2005 R2 SP1.

Do you maybe know a unsubscribed way to integrate proxmox service pack 2.1 on a proxmox 2.0 free version? ;)

Kind Regards
EGI

Hi,

I am sorry, no. If suggest to buy a license - € 399 for unlimited users is quite a fair price - Including support and feature updates for one year.

On the other side, running Proxmox on an unsupported platform is not best idea, I recommend you VMware server instead. Proxmox is tested and certified to run under Vmware, you can download the ready to run production ready appliance here:
