Try:

chronyc makestep

But the question is how is it out of sync to begin with? Does it have network upon boot? Was the NUC sitting boxed off grid for years prior to now?

its 12 minutes out of sync. everything working fine except a constant prompt for log in (apparently time zone related)
It is best up date the bios time? seems changing time zone on proxmox doesn't resolve it properly.

What does chronyc tracking say? The timezone has nothing to do with it, it's just offset how you want the time displayed. Chrony should get it back on track over a period of time or you make it instant (with all the risks) with the makestep.

But the reason I asked was that perhaps your CMOS battery is dead and needs replacing.
