Hey Folks,

im running a Proxmox Host

Ryzen 3700X
ASROCK Rack x470 DU Board
64 gb RAM
4x 6 TB WD Red

Now i wanna run 2x Windows 10 and a Freenas VM.

WHats the best option for me to have the best choice with my storage?

Should i install Proxmox on a SDHCX Card via USB-Stick as boot drive, a SSD 1 TB for VM storage. And the rest bring the WD Reds in Freenas?

A friend on mine sayd some days ago: give freenas all the storage, and give it back from freenas to proxmox host, but i dont understand what he means.
Maybe anyone other can explain me?

Not sure but what's the point of sharing Freenas VM storage back to Proxmox host (??)...
Is Proxmox host gonna be used in home or production environment?

I'd consider twin-ssd (RAID) for Proxmox host + VM's, REDs for NAS storage...

I just need a SMB Share and dont wanna install it on proxmox host. so it thinked i do it with a nas os

I would not do that. Proxmox is not ESXi which will only boot from the SD Card / USB Stick and write the logs somewhere else. It is a full Linux OS that will do a lot of writing on it's boot device. Your SD Card / USB Stick will be dead in a short amount of time. Plus it will be kinda slow to work with.

Instead of doing that I would recommend to have a mirrored drive for the VMs and the OS so in case one drive fails your server can still function.
