Hello everyone, let me explain my problem. on the windows VM, in the hardware list I mistakenly added a device which I think is used by proxmox itself. which crashed proxmox. at startup, if I choose recovery mode after several lines of loading nothing more happens.

in normal boot mode it's a black screen. in both cases unable to access the web interface or a terminal. so I tried to boot on an ubuntu live CD in order to mount the hard disk to manually modify the configuration file of my vm.

the problem is that in the etc/pve folder there is nothing except two hidden folder ".." and "."

Thank you in advance for your help.

You cannot access (or even see) the files in /etc/pve if Proxmox is not started, that's normal.
If your problem is that the VM with the wrong device is automatically starting: disable VT-d/IOMMU in BIOS or press e in the boot menu and remove intel_iommu=on or add amd_iommu=off. This will prevent the VMs with PCI(e) passthrough from starting (they fail) and you can fix your VM configuration.
EDIT: If you still have problems because your early bind the wrong device to vfio-pci, then try adding vfio-pci.blacklist=yes to the kernel parameters (via the boot menu) to prevent vfio-pci from loading and taking the device.

I will try that. Thanking you for your quick and accurate response. I'll keep you posted!

Je ne sais pas. Ajoutez ou remplacez-les sur la ligne qui contient les paramètres du noyau (comme intel_iommu=on, mais je ne sais pas si vous avez un système Intel ou AMD).
j'ai I have an Intel system with an NVIDIA GPU
