Proxmox + OPNsense + Home Assistant

Networking newbie with zero experience with virtual environments. I purchased a N5105 mini PC (4GB ram + 128gb NVMe) and plan to run both OPN sense and Home assistant using proxmox. I don't really understand how the IP addresses will work and was hoping someone will help me understand the configuration. Proxmox will initially receive an IP address when i install it using my old router, what happens when i install OPNsense? Does it receive a new IP address from the OPNsense within it?

Sorry if the question seems stupid but i really can't wrap my head around it. Also, can i SSH into the OPNsense, home assistant and proxmox separately? Finally, is there a way to stop home assistant from having access to all 4 ethernet ports on the miniPC?

No, the IP is static, so you would need to change it.

Jup.

VMs got no access to any of the hosts hardware. All they see are virtual hardware. Don't create a virtual NIC bridged to a physical NICs, then Home Assistant won't have any access to the network used by that physical NIC.

And you need more RAM. PVE needs at least 2GB, OPNsense 2GB and Home Assistant doesn't specify a minimum hardware requirement but you want some GBs too. Even 8GB RAM might be a bit too small.

OK thanks for your help, when i bought the PC, i thought i would just be running OPN sense but might need to get some more RAM now that i'm considering VMs
