So I've installed proxmox v6.1-8 on top of Debian 10 following https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Install_Proxmox_VE_on_Debian_Buster

Now question: I have more than one hdd attached but in proxmox I can see only one which it is installed on. no locaL-LVM storage in my pve instance.
I found that local storage is mounted in /var/lib/vz.

I've tried from console thos ecommands without luck (no storage visible in proxmox GUI):
pvcreate /dev/sda1
vgcreate StorageName /dev/sda1

Empty hdd - What/how is best to add new hdd to proxmox?
Not empty - if I want to preserve content of the hdd.

Thanks

Hi!

How did you partition your disk when installing Debian?
You can create storages for your other disks by clicking on your node → Disks.

When installed Debian I used one whole disk and went with default "guided" mode which resulted with all in one partition plus swap. Other disks were not touch nor mounted.

Clicking on node -> disks does give options for:
  • LVM
  • LVM Thin
  • Direcotry
  • ZFS
but i Cant select any of additional disks because none of them in mounted / added to proxmox and that is my question.

still no solution to this , i have same, installed to disk 1 left 2 &3 as is. now when i open the disk view in pve browser , it say no unused disks.

the document section for that page is a joke, zero examples to or notes to explain what to do in this scenario.

I'm not sure which of those you want. Both?

Proxmox VE assumes that there is nothing on the disks when you want to use the storage creation utilities from node → Disks. Really nothing. If you want to add an "empty" disk to Proxmox VE but it does not appear as unused disk, please try if the advice from this thread.

If, however, there is already some data on the disk which you do not want to lose, you will have to mount it manually using /etc/fstab for example. You can then create a "Storage" in Proxmox VE on top of it.

local-lvm is one of the storages that is created by the Proxmox VE bare metal installer. It is not supposed to be there if you install Proxmox VE on top of Debian. The recommended way to get a quick and easy start is to use the bare metal installer:

Alternatively, Proxmox VE can be installed on top of an existing Debian system. This option is only recommended for advanced users because detailed knowledge about Proxmox VE is required.
