Hi

I have 2 server HP DL 560 GEN8 and storage HP2040 connet FC.
I have currently installed version 5.4 of proxmox on the two servers.
I wanted to migrate to the new version 6.2, unfortunately during the installation phase and not even after the installation is completed is the storage detected that in the previous version was seen as LVM.
I tried reinstalling version 5 which immediately detects storage (lvm)
Wondering if version 6 doesn't support HP MSA 2040 storage?

Thank you

RT

Hi @aaron Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately, storage is not detected during installation, therefore multipath is not yet installed.
I have to download the ISO 6.1 and install it, this version immediately detects the storage and related LVM.
At this point is it sufficient to run after the update or are they two different versions?

What do you mean exactly? I hope I understand you correctly: If you now upgrade the freshly installed 6.1 to the latest updates you will have the same packages installed as if you would upgrade from 5.4 to 6.2.

However I don't understand why with version 6.1 it detects storage and with version 6.2 it does not detect storage.

Hi @aaron and now after update from 6.1 to 6.2 and restart server the disk LVM of storage HP MSA 2040
THEY ARE NO LONGER VISIBLE again!!!!

WHAT CAN I DO?

Thanks

Hmm, possibly a driver issue with the FC card in the node? Does it get detected again if you select an older kernel when booting the node?

Hi @aaron
If I install versions 5.4 or 6.1 it all works and detects the disks.
With version 6.2 or by updating from 6.1 to 6.2 he no longer sees them.
The problem is that at this point I have to reinstall the old release 5.4 and stop renewing the subscription service.
What else can I do?

As I said, my suspicion is that the FC adapter might not be recognized by the newer kernel. But to narrow down on the actual cause, more information is needed.

Which FC adapter card do you have installed?

Is there anything in the syslog or output of dmesg that indicates a problem with the hardware not being functional or detected properly?

If you upgraded from 6.1 to 6.2 you should still have the older kernel that was installed with 6.1. In the bootloader you can select that older kernel. Does the storage get detected if you boot the 6.2 installation with that older kernel?

Once we can narrow down which kernel version was the last that worked we can check what changed and probably caused it to not work anymore.

Can you post more information on the FC controller? If you run lspci it should show up in the list.

Once you identified it and note the address (first column, something like 00:08.1) please run the following to get more detailed information and post it here: lspci -vv -s <address>

This will show which kernel module/driver is used.

Please also check if you see the FC controller with lspci if you boot the latest kernel and if the output of lspci -vv -s <address> is different in the new kernel.

Unless I missed it, which kernel version is the latest you can boot? The one with which it does not recognize the storage anymore?

The last kernel recognize is 5.3.18-3 not recognize anymore 5.4.44-1

@aaron the attach files is for kernel 5.4 e 5.3

Thanks

Oh, one thing I forgot to ask earlier, is there newer firmware available?

I did find the following post where someone else with a QLogic ISP2532-based controller found a configuration that should work with the latest kernels: https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/proxmox-ve-6-2-released.69647/page-3#post-316421
Hi @aaron
I tried to change the parameter in the Qlogic configuration but it doesn't change.
Unfortunately he doesn't see the storage space.
At this point I can no longer wait, I still install version 5.4 I have to restart the work

Not really other than what has been said:
  1. Firmware update
  2. Change settings on controller
  3. Boot older Kernel that works for now
We don't have any hardware around based on the same Chip to test this ourselves :/
